| I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to visit Little Compton on a yearly basis, and even more fortunate that my in-laws live down the road from Sakonnet Vineyards. It's definitely one of the prettiest places I've had the pleasure to visit.
Whenever we're out in LC we start our day with a 1 mile walk to the vineyard with the dogs, who love running up the road and thru the pond. It's set back off of Main Rd. and opens into the most picturesque place you've ever seen. It's a fantastic spot for weddings, parties, any special event.
We try to stop in every time we're out East and in the summer we're there at least twice: once for lunch at the Coop Cafe, and another time for a wine tasting, and then we take a bottle outside and enjoy the warm air and surroundings. The wine selection at Sakonnet is quite good and reasonably priced. Our favorite is the Gewurztraminer, with the cab franc in close second.
If you are in Providence or Boston or Newport, you would be remiss if you didn't make a side trip to Little Compton and visit. It's no more than 40 minutes from downtown Providence, providing traffic is good. |
